How to Have Fun for FREE!

Hanging out with friends is one of my favourite things to do, but the sushi lunches and movie tickets can be a drain on a student’s limited budget. Here are my favourite ways to have fun without spending ANY money!

Typical Activity: Coffee shop date

Cost: $5 coffee + $3 muffin = $8 dollars too much

Alternative: Make a cup of tea at home and chat at the kitchen table, in the end the company is the thing you will remember, not the expensive latte

Typical Activity: Lunch at a restaurant

Cost: $20 for a meal and drink

Alternative: Make sandwiches at home and take them to the park to eat al fresco

Typical Activity: Hike at a conservation area/provincial park

Cost: Gas + $10 fee to get in

Alternative: Go for a walk at a local park, trail, or arboretum (there’s one across the street from my house), bring your own reusable water bottle to save money there too!

Typical Activity: Shopping

Cost: $$$

Alternative: Get together with friends to swap clothing, jewelry, books etc. You can ‘shop’ for free and donate the things left over to charity!

Typical Activity: Movie Theatre

Cost: $14 ticket + $10 in snacks = $24

Alternative: Use Netflix or get a DVD from your local library and have a movie night at home complete with microwave popcorn (less money AND less calories)

I hope you found this post helpful, enjoy the upcoming long weekend everyone!
